Valid EU Remote Pilot Certificate (A2)

Important Note:

The refresher training can only be completed if you hold a valid A2 remote pilot license, regardless of which EU member state issued it. If your license has already expired, you must retake the entire A2 training course and pass the subsequent exam.

What's Included

Once your order has been successfully processed, you will receive an email granting you access to the Droniq Academy’s online training course for the A2 Remote Pilot Certificate / Drone License. The training takes approximately 8–10 hours to complete.

To register for the online exam, you will also receive an email with an upload link for all required documents. Once we have verified that all documents are complete, you will receive another link to schedule your personal appointment/exam date for the online exam. The exam can take place no sooner than 7 days after registration, so that you have enough time to study, submit all required documents to us, and allow us to review them in accordance with the guidelines of the Federal Aviation Authority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I also take the A2 refresher training course at Droniq if I obtained my A2 remote pilot certificate in another EU member state?

Yes. The only requirement is that the applicant holds a valid A2 remote pilot certificate. According to the legally binding provisions of NfL-2025-2-844 (effective June 10, 2025), only the valid A2 certificate needs to be verified for the refresher training required for renewal—without restriction to a specific member state. Accordingly, it does not matter in which EU member state the license was issued.

What documents do I need to submit for renewal as part of the refresher training?

To renew the license, you must provide proof of the appropriate, valid remote pilot certificate:

For A2: a valid A2 remote pilot certificate
For STS: a valid STS remote pilot certificate

This examination is based on the mandatory requirements set forth in NfL-2025-2-844 and the legally binding decision by the Federal Aviation Authority (LBA) regarding the expansion of the examination center.

What happens after Droniq sends the renewal notice—will I receive a new certificate?

Yes. After Droniq reports the extension, the Federal Aviation Authority (LBA) issues a new remote pilot certificate. This certificate is issued with an LBA remote pilot ID.

How long is the A2 remote pilot certificate valid?

The A2 certificate is valid for 5 years in accordance with EU Regulation 2019/947. Renewal is only possible within the validity period.

When can I renew my A2 remote pilot certificate?

Renewal is only possible within the remaining 5-year period. After that, renewal is no longer possible; instead, a completely new application with an examination is required.

Do I have to take an exam to renew my license?

No. The refresher training is conducted entirely online without an exam. You complete the online course material and then receive a certificate of completion. Proof of successful completion is sent directly to the LBA to renew your current remote pilot certificate. Please note that the LBA charges a fee (currently 15 EUR) for the renewal of the certificate.

How long does the e-learning course take?

That depends on your learning pace. As a general rule, you should be able to renew your license in 1–2 hours. You can work through the material at your own pace and from anywhere—making it ideal for those with full-time jobs.
